Provide relief, comfort and necessities to those families experiencing homelessness in Sarpy County.
Community Care Kits provide relief and helpful resources to Sarpy's homeless.
These kits are designed to bridge the gap between permanent housing solutions and the immediate needs of those in our community who are experiencing homelessness.
Most are unaware of Sarpy County’s homeless issue. Since we don’t have a homeless shelter, we must not have a problem, right? Wrong. In the latest data collected by the Point in Time (PIT) count last completed in January,
we discovered:
- 30 people were estimated to be living in encampments
- 18 people were being temporarily housed in area hotels
- 27 people were living in their cars in area parking lots or couch surfing
- At least 144 children report to be homeless. Assuming each of these kids has at least one parent, we estimate there are at least 288 people living in encampments, temporary housing or on the street in Sarpy County.
Thank you for helping us stock backpacks with food, toiletries and other immediate necessities in addition to a list of resources to help these families find permanent housing solutions.
